Two Days

Until Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag is out and if you’ve missed anything – here’s a catch-up:

Last but not least: A Twitter G&A with Ashraf Ismail made readable, keeping Connor in mind now that we get to know his grandpappy and parts of Black Flag’s official soundtrack (which is already available for listening and purchasing). It’s fairly easy to see that I’m looking forward to next week’s Tuesday when the game is released.

As you sail the Carribean seas heading to your next destination, your crew will sing various pirate shanties, a type of work song, to motivate one another. As Captain Edward Kenway, you will be able to draw from various pirate shanties to cue your crew to sing it! Listen now for an exclusive sneak peak of the Randy Dandy shanty.

In other news: the UPlay rewards for Black Flag have been revealed, new details on season pass content has surfaced and the official AC Twitter account has a small Q&A during which gave many exciting details.

A chat about returning characters, the creed, modern day, stealth, and Connor’s future with Darby McDevitt (AC4 Lead Writer).

Time to Fly the Flag

And thus E3 has reached its inevitable end with the latest news and information in regards to upcoming games. Being a major fan of the Assassin’s Creed I’ve collected the mot interesting tidbits from all over the Internet. From newly released trailers to older discussions regarding the fine details of the AC universe – here’s what I’ve saved thus far.

Reddit user sidspyker (Who also seems to be an info magician) posts the biggest info dump outside of any magazine or website, giving a sneak peek into details and features previously unmentioned. Polygon has an interesting article in the “romantic” relationships of Edward Kenway of which we will see many, apparently. GameInformer gives us a short written preview of what is to coming. Ubisoft’s own UbiBlog compares the Jackdaw to the USS Enterprise, which is an interesting comparison to say the least.

A short look into the (possible) history of Edward Kenway and a r/assassinscreed discussion into what kind of accent Kenway will be speaking with, since he is a Welshman after all and Ubisoft has promised to their players that they will try to be as accurate as possible. Also, a kind redditor shares the world map of Black Flag which shows all the possible destinations for Kenway and his crew.

Shiver me timbers, this epilogue should’ve been included in the ending of Assassin’s Creed 3. It may have better wrapped Connor’s part, an issue much discussed here and here. Oh, and the epilogue is actually part of the novel “Forsaken”.

Redditors have also discussed whether the Brotherhood is good or badcompared Connor and Edwarddiscussed the various styles and methods of each assassin, ceaselessly debated on a possible return to older game mechanics (AC1 to AC3) and pondered on what actually happened to Desmond at the end of AC3. All the while fans debate the franchise’s finer details Ubisoft admits that they will continue with the annual releases until the fans have enough and talks next-gen possibilities and morethe Assassin’s Creed movie receives an official premiere date,  it is implied that Watch_Dogs and AC could possibly share the same universe (unconfirmed) and mysterious messages show up in the assassinscreed subreddit.

Black Flag

End of another weeks means more updates on Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flags. This includes an official gameplay trailer, info on the collector editions, interviews with developers and much more. Small warning: This post is in no way grammatically correct. It’s a load of links that are worth checking out and I’m simply too distracted to structure my sentences correctly.

Check out all the available editions for Black Flag here. I have to admit that the largest in size, exclusively available from UPlay (called Black Chest) looks awfully tempting…

In other related news: A thread on r/assassinscreed has compiled all currently known information about the gamehostile sharks have been confirmedPETA protests whaling and Ubisoft responds to the protestan interesting discussion regarding the Jackdaw and a thread on why Black Flag is also numbered as showing a new, continuous saga. Oh, and check out this impressive concept art of Edward Kenway and Blackbeard.

You can check out thisthis and this too for more interviews.

Check out from these screenshots from the Betrayal before you move on. Also, a redditor discusses an personal theory on the end of the story arc. I have not read the thread since I haven’t played the storyline as I’m saving it until the final, third part is released next month.

I have to admit that I still do not understand why people do not appreciate Connor as a character and luckily, I’m not alone in my opinion as my sentiments are shared with others. See – there are many of us how would like to see more of Connor in another installment (coughthe French Revolutioncough). Also, the soundtrack. Please listen to the soundtrack. Personally I find it almost as good as the soundtrack of Assassin’s Creed 2.

In quick order: A thread which corrects misconceptions around the entire series and the same guy who did the Uncharted “movies” has done the same to Assassin’s Creed 2 and Brotherhood and plans on doing so to every game. Check out this important discussion of having more female assassin’s in the next games and this workout based on the series. Nearing the end of this info-stream with Ubisoft Toronto dropping a hint of collaborating on the new Assassin’s Creed game. And last but not least merchandising in the form of figurinesa beanie and Desmond’s hoodie.

Prepare yourself for this onslaught of image-based material: User-made poster and pie chartgifs galoremain assassin’s wallpaper (also), Edward Kenway wallpaperBackground galore130 AC wallpapersnew screenshots from BF, impressive Shard of Eden replica and art concepts of the hidden blade, including models never seen in-game.

And that’s all for now – I’ll post more as it comes in!

P.s If you are wondering: I have zero affiliation to any of the parties who develop or publish the Assassin’s Creed franchise and no, I do not get paid to post this. I am simply a dedicated, excited and interested fan and I have friends who are as dedicated as I am and who through these posts share my excitement for the franchise. It is that simple. That is all!

Black Flag

And thus Assassin’s Creed Black Flag presented for us mortals. The press embargo has been lifted which means that, VG 24/ and IGN are free to report share what they know about the game. Well, at least what they (and we) know thus far. If you want to have all of the links on the same page, check this out. I have to admit that I was a bit pessimistic about the change of scene and characters but this promises to be legendary. And apparently I’m not alone in this sentiment (as you can see and read here and here).

Anyway – not only have we been given information regarding the game but fresh screenshots have been leaked. Take a peek at them herehere and here. We also have a look at:

The Jackdaw, the chosen vessel of our protagonist Edward Kenway, private and assassin.

An interesting discussion and point of interest is the lack of beak on Edward’s hood

Ubisoft posted this map on their Facebook page which shows which studios are developing AC4:BF and again the amount is impressing.

In further and related things: A kind redditor shared details of the poster one gets when pre-ordering the gamequestions about Special Editions pop up (which I have to admit that I’m interested in as well), trailer analysis but a variety of fans reveal curious details regarding the movie, oh and apparently  Connor was aware of his Grandfather

A common attitude you come across… But you know what? I’m actually happy with the direction this game is going. I am sad and disappointed that we won’t be seeing Connor (Soon?) since I enjoyed AC3. I also hope that they hold some of the mechanics that were developed in the previous installment.

Anyway – that’s what I have until now. I’ll post more the next time I come across something interesting.

The Return of the Kenway’s

As you may or may not have heard/read – Ubisoft recently announced the latest addition to the Assassin’s Creed family, titled “Assassin’s Creed 4 Black Flag” and apparently there’s going to be pirates in the Caribbean. To the disappointment of some and to mixed emotions. But more about that later. Kotaku and report the confirmation from Ubisoft’s conference from earlier in the week (Which is embargoed until Monday, meaning that we normal mortals will get all the available news then).

As soon as the confirmation and details started surfacing, fans started discussing all kinds of interesting things. Such as: why this is the right choice for the franchisethe reason behind the directionhow we’ll be playing main and new protagonist (oh, and here’s a look at the man himselfif we’ll see the return of the hook bladeif tree running will still be possible (which is still one of my favorite features from AC3), why the Assassin’s would be pirates/privateersall kind of curious historic details to the era and that we should wait until we have more information till we pass judgement. Well, until we know more you can keep an eye on the official websites countdown which promises a reveal on Monday.

Makes you wonder what kind of world’s we’ll be seeing next…

And until the official release of the trailer (It’s been leaked – a light search and it’s fairly easy to find), here’s couple of things to keep you preoccupied:

Redditors wonder: What do we know of Desmond’s mother? A thread on Costume help, in hunting down a replica of a hidden blade.  A redditor re-created the Codex from Assassin’s Creed 2 and has made it available for download. and Kotaku has an interesting article about Aveline: This Assassin’s Creed Heroine Is a Great Black Game Character. Here’s How It Happened.

And that’s all I have for you today but Monday promises more news about AC4 Black Flag.

Until then,

Tyranny of George Washington & Some Other Things

I’d just like to say that I have a massive Assassin’s Creed post that has been brewing and simmering for the past month or so and it’s still coming. I just need to find an entire day off where I take the time to go through everything and arrange it in some kind of a coherent fashion. But until then – here’s just something to sink your teeth in.

I have to admit that I still haven’t played TOKW but hopefully it is just as amazing as AC3 itself is. Especially now that it has been announced that the DLC’s storyline is indeed canon to the main storyline Oh, and hopefully you’ve already read the news that Ubisoft is developing the next installment (and are, according to rumors, hosting a press event on Feb 27th which may or may not concern Assassin’s Creed 4). Most of the things I’ve read about AC4 are more or less rumours but check it out yourself if you’re interested.

And last but definitely not least, this:

Amazing, no?

Assassin’s Creed and Some Other Gaming News

Today I finished Assassin’s Creed 3 and thought that it would be the perfect opportunity to share what I’ve collected the past four weeks. Warning: This is mostly Assassin’s Creed related but there are some other gaming news at the end. This time we’re kicking of with a couple of videos:

Now onto the straight line of Assassin’s Creed news and other tidbits that have been clogging my Reading List:

It was some time ago but a number of members of the Dev Team did an AmA on Reddit, much to the amusement and joy of Redditors and loyal Assassin’s Creed fans. I have also bookmarked a number of interviews, one with lead writer Corey May in LA Times and the other with creative director Alex Hutchinson in EuroGamer. Oh, and let’s not forget this amazing “interview” with Matt Turner and Alex Hutchinson on Kotaku. On another side of the developer-gamer board, Redditor Gasman91 has shared some handy tips for gameplay and the AC subreddit also made this spoiler-free guide to a few tricks to the game.

But as splendid AC3 is, it has not been without a couple of glitches, of which I have noticed only a few but hilarious. Luckily Ubisoft has provided already one patch and a second one coming, to fix any bugs left. And now, since many have played the story, the rumour mill has started, gossip is spreading and people are discussing the possibilities and eventualities of the has done a good analysis of the ending (I agree with some of the points presented), speculations as to location (Brazil) have begun to spread (Which I do not support. I have another idea which features Connor, Desmond’s father and the French Revolution. Some points and details in the game indicate this, but we won’t know for sure until next year). WhatCulture! has 10 things they want to see from the next installment, of which I find a few interesting and plausible.

Reddit has been active in discussing Assassin’s Creed (And not just the what if’s, when’s and gameplay tactics) but also: features that were cut from the game, the existence of a Haytham Kenway outfit (A truly curious character, much like Connor) and a future blacksmith asking for schematics. One credditor seems to have found a script for something Assassin’s Creedanother shared concept art for three different assassin’s and a third the wallpapers unlocked through UPlay. Oh, and a multitude of wallpapers. A well-known fact is that dA artists are amazing at creating concept art (Well, fan-made). A current favorite (Courtesy of Reddit) is ChaoyuanXu. Also courtesy of Reddit:

by, and it did not take long for the image to be edited.

Also in pictures, The Expert Orca Killer and Ubisoft released backgrounds and wallpapers in celebration of the franchise’s fifth year. Really? Five years? Wow…

I’m going to quickly run through the final Assassin’s Creed things which include Connor’s acceptance speech at the VGA (which sadly did not come to use…)The Tomahawk (available from Amazon), Assassin’s Creed Anthology (also available via Amazon) – all the games, all the dlc in a single massive box and last but not least Creed earringsflagartbook and countless comic books I had forgotten about.

There we have it – that’s all the news and stuff related to Assassin’s Creed that has been sitting in my Bookmarks, waiting to be shared. This means we are nearing the end of this almost endless post. I’ll voice my own opinion some time soon – I need to group my thoughts and recuperate from my sprint through the game. The next couple of days are going to be spent carefully going through it, relishing every detail I missed earlier. Anyway the final things I want to share today, in regards to gaming, are: an album of images from Skyrim’s upcoming DLC – “Dragonborn”Dishonored sold better than Bethesda expecteddetails on the new Xbox are soon to comeTime Magazine’s list of All Time 100 Video Games (does not include the one I wanted but oh well) and finally check out these cool luggage labels by A.J Hateley from around the gaming world.

Sigh. That’s it folks. That is all I have for now. It’s a lot and that’s okay – take your time to read it while I go off and play more Assassin’s Creed 3. I swear, that game is so good it is no joke. And I’ll explain why next week when I have several days off. and time to write Until then,

12 Hours

Not far now at all. Barely an entire day and it’s out. And in honour of this occasion I figured I’d order the gauntlet (Which I did). I swear, it’s insanely popular. Every time they get more in it’s sold out within the hour or so…

If you need to refresh your memory, here’s a nifty character tree to remind you who is related to whom and how. Also check out The Assassin’s Creed Collection which has some really snazzy stuff. Or then to get you can head over to Ubiworkshop‘s store and nab one of the t-shirts or hoodies. And last but not least, here are the UPlay Rewards for Assassin’s Creed 3. And that’s it. Happy gaming!

8 Days Left

And thus this will be one of the last posts about the game before I stop reading any news feeds and unsubscribe from the Assassin’s Creed subreddit.

Kicking off, Corridor Digital’s amazing short in which Connor does what he does (we hope) best – kicking ass and saving people.

I warmly recommend watching all of CD’s films – they are superb in every way.

More officially, here is the official launch trailer, which I hope to see on the telly some time soon.

In other official news, New Regency has signed on as production company for the movie. You can read about it hereherehere and here too.

I also share this podcast, which features Roger Craig Smith voice-actor for Ezio, which someone shared a link to.

I also found my way to the tumblr, All Sounds of Assassin’s Creed which is a treasure trove for any/all sound snippets that are related to the Assassin’s Creed universe. I was hoping to find the minstrel songs Ezio sings in Revelations and behold, my hopes came true.

And we’re now coming to the things from the Assassin’s Creed subreddit which vary from a discussion about assassin’s and religionstheories upon Desmond’s journey and story and a thread in which many subscribers come to the to decision to not follow the subreddit for a period (As will I, so as not to spoil the game before I get the chance to play it). In images – here’s some Boston Concept artan assassin seen outside of the Pantheon and an album full off kick-ass wallpapers. Also, check out this hoodie scarf on Etsy which looks perfect for skulking around town, tracking your prey or just finding your way to the supermarket through the rain.

And last but not least – “Tip Of the Spear” by Epic Score which was used in the launch trailer for Assassin’s Creed.
